“Pie Jesu, Domine, dona eis requiem.
Pie Jesu, Domine, dona eis sempiternam requiem.”
Stella Thérèse Song
I am a fine artist creating works that inspire viewers to contemplate the splendid mysteries and beauties of God’s creation, encountered in moments of unexpected grace. I stray from traditional iconography and narratives embracing a more poetic and ambiguous form that speaks to God’s impenetrable nature; poetry sings in foreign tongues to the hearts and souls of mankind. I believe art and beauty are ways in which the Holy Spirit calls an increasingly secular society to God and transform their “hardened hearts” (Psalm 95:8).
As a fallen creature of the world and very sinful, I know that my divine maker is able to create more worthy expressions of Himself in art than I could ever—as it is the Lord who made the heavens and the earth. I therefore submit to the Holy Spirit as His servant, humbling my own will in the act of creation, so that I might become a mere vehicle through which He conceives of the created work. It all comes together when the Holy Spirit stirs my heart to prayer and gratitude as I contemplate the final image, which often inspires the titles for my works.
Over the years, the subjects I feel most drawn to are subjects which point to traces of heaven on earth—sky, trees, sun, mountains, monuments, and cathedrals—calling to mind a time and space before the tragic Fall and the longed for hope of paradise . . .
