“Pie Jesu, Domine, dona eis requiem.

Pie Jesu, Domine, dona eis sempiternam requiem.”

Stella Song is a fine artist creating works that inspire viewers to contemplate the splendid mysteries and beauties of God’s creation encountered in moments of unexpected grace. She strays from traditional iconography and narratives in order to take on a more poetic and ambiguous form that speaks to God’s impenetrable nature; poetry sings in foreign tongues to the hearts and souls of mankind. She believes art and beauty are ways in which the Holy Spirit calls an increasingly secular society to God and transform their “hardened hearts” (Psalm 95:8).

As a fallen creature of the world and very sinful, she knows that her divine maker is able to create more worthy expressions of Himself in art than she could ever be capable of—as It is the Lord who made the heavens and the earth. She therefore submits to the Holy Spirit as his servant, following the example of Mary and Christ, by humbling her own will in the act of creation, so that she can be a mere vehicle by which he conceives of the created work. It all comes together when the Holy Spirit stirs her heart to prayer and gratitude which form titles for her work.

Over the years, the subjects she feels most drawn to subjects which point to traces of heaven on earth—sky, trees, sun, mountains, monuments, and cathedrals—calling to mind a time and space before the tragic fall and the longed for hope of paradise . . .

“Et perducant the in civitatem sanctum Jerusalem.”
